Our Aims
1. Undertake detailed scrutiny of the UK’s military space programme and its impacts and harms.
Key aspects of this work are:
- Pursuing greater transparency over space policy and the development of space infrastructure with potential military applications by the Ministry of Defence and UK Space Agency.
- Conducting research into the development and deployment of military space technology by the UK.
- Maintaining an up-to-date, publicly-available dataset on UK military space development programmes and space assets used by the UK military.
2. Educate and inform a broad audience about the use, risks, and impact of space technologies.
Key aspects of this work are:
- Engaging with key decision-makers and opinion formers on specific space-related policies and programmes, for example by providing information and analysis, and submitting evidence to inquiries.
- Engaging with the media to give informed but critical view of use of space technologies.
- Preparing research reports and briefings and undertaking speaking engagements to educate and inform the public about military space technologies and developments.
3. Undertake effective public campaigning and advocacy to highlight and challenge the dangers from military space programmes and technologies.
Key aspects of this work are:
- Enabling and encouraging community-based campaign groups to oppose space-related projects with military applications.
- Contributing to advocacy work aimed at strengthening the international legal and policy framework for controlling military activity in space.
- Working with parliamentarians to advocate for greater transparency over the UK's military space programme.
